The History<\/strong>
In 2002 I received my Graphic Design degree from University Technology MARA (UiTM). I later pursued my Master\u2019s Degree in Visual Communication and New Media in 2008 from the same university. In 2018 I received my PhD in Curriculum and Instructional Technology from the University of Malaya. In terms of working experience, \u00a0I have worked for two years in the industry before joining UiTM as a tutor in 2004. \u00a0In 2006 I was promoted to Young Lecturer and thereafter became a Senior Lecturer.

My teaching philosophy consists of four essential aspects: knowledge, student, learning style, and technology. First, as an academician, I believe that it is our responsibility to impart knowledge, especially in our area of expertise. Second, I think that knowledge is a valuable asset and that education is vital to ensure that knowledge is imparted effectively. Third, I believe that all students have equal rights in acquiring knowledge\u2014the challenge is providing education that fits the students’ different learning styles and preferences, as mentioned by Felder and Silverman (2002). Finally, I believe that the use of the appropriate technology will enhance the acquisition of knowledge. I want to thank Felder and Solomon for creating the Index of Learning Styles<\/em> that helps to identify students\u2019 learning styles and preferences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Education<\/strong>
Quality of education is based on a solid philosophy and appropriate theories. In UiTM, the implementation of the Education 5.0 blueprint provides a guide that focuses on student\u2019s academic achievements and values as human beings. An educator’s responsibility becomes more challenging when moving from a conventional lecturer-centred approach to a student-centred learning approach. Hence, the art of teaching must change from pedagogy-andragogy-heutagogy methods to a more student-oriented approach that enhances students’ learning independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Constructivism<\/strong>
I believe social constructivism can enhance student\u2019s understanding and performance. Lev Vygotsky reveals the theory of social constructivism in which the learning environment influences the \u00a0Zone Proximal Development (ZPD). The ZPD refers to\u00a0the range of <\/strong>individuals abilities\u00a0that can perform with the guidance of an expert.<\/strong>\u00a0According to Jean Piaget, the higher the intelligence of an individual, the higher the chance the individual can achieve ZPD independently. \u00a0In fact, some of them may have multiple intelligence, as mentioned by Howard Gardner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology<\/strong>
The world is rapidly moving towards incorporating technology in education. This includes the implementation of current technology such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in some learning activities. The use of 360\u00b0 camera video to create virtual reality content is fantastic. However, the equipment limitation should not be a barrier in exploring alternative ways to create interactive content for the students. Some of the existing platforms, like Learning Management System (LMS) provided by UiTM, has features that meet the needs of UiTM staff and students. Other alternative platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Google, and other Web 2.0 tools are also available to be explored. For example, Padlet is suitable for collaboration, Prezi for presentation, Kahoot for Quiz, Website, and Blog for additional information. I strongly believe in the philosophy that technology is a tool that can be used to provide an effective delivery in teaching and learning. Even though many applications are available to be used in teaching and learning, it does not mean that all these applications need to be employed. Choose the best according to the content you are teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open Distance Learning<\/strong>
Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is one of the effective methods designed in 2002 and became famous during the Covid-19 pandemic. ODL is a unique approach to assure learning occurs in any situation. Online delivery is used when both parties (lecturer-student) have access to the internet. However, other methods can be used when the internet is not available. So, before deciding on a platform to deliver the content, students\u2019 access to the internet should be established.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
