Teaching for Deaf<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

The primary barrier for deaf students compared to their hearing peers is communication. My three deaf students require distinct learning approaches. While they can effectively communicate with each other using sign language, not all lecturers possess these skills. Consequently, interpreter services are often necessary for all classes. However, some interpreters struggle with specific terminologies, leading to variations in interpreter availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To address students\u2019 challenges in understanding lessons, I decided to offer one-on-one consultations after class to ensure they receive the support they need. Additionally, I created several video lessons featuring an interpreter to enhance communication and improve students\u2019 understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative to develop Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for deaf students is essential. Although the number of deaf students at UiTM is limited, creating these MOOC modules will provide valuable resources for other deaf students to learn graphic animation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Self Instruction Material (SIM)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Malaysian Federation of Deaf (MFD) provided valuable feedback on the potential to assist deaf students in learning graphic animation. Following a preliminary study, I pursued my PhD in instructional design technology to further support this initiative. I developed Self-Instructional Materials (SIM) for deaf students to learn graphic animation independently, without the need for lecturers or representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
